The Luxembourg Bone and Tissue Bank (LBTB) is a tissue establishment located in Munsbach, Luxembourg, licensed by the Grand Ducal Minister of Health since 2007 under license number 001/07. In accordance with the Grand Ducal Law of August 1, 2007, concerning human tissues and cells intended for human applications and its implementing regulations, which transpose European Directives in this area, the establishment undergoes biennial inspections. LBTB is authorized to collect femoral heads, store human-origin tissues, and distribute these tissues to other licensed Tissue Establishments within the European Union, whether they are bone, venous, umbilical, or connective tissues. LBTB distributes tissues sourced from both living and deceased donors. Following the European Directive 2015/565/EC and in compliance with current Grand Ducal law, LBTB is registered on the European platform under the code LU007720.
LBTB distributes its products in BENELUX, Spain, Greece, and Slovenia, where it holds a significant market share. Its short-term project involves expanding to Portugal, Croatia, the United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland. LBTB does not process human tissues itself. It either outsources processing to another partner tissue establishment or distributes tissues obtained from another European bank or imported from a country outside the European Union. All LBTB partners are authorized and certified by their national authorities. Meanwhile, LBTB is authorized by its Ministry of Health for each of its partnerships and for each individual tissue or product family.
