Scientific Committee

Further to its first ministerial authorization in 2007, LBTB decided to gather a few number of Luxembourgish expert surgeons.

Their mandate is to advise and support our establishment by expressing their therapeutic wishes in terms of human body material, shedding light on regulatory issues or supporting our communication with health authorities. For example, they play a major role in setting up and regulating the collection of femoral heads from living donors.

They also play a decisive role in opening up certain foreign markets.

Everyone supports “the national bank” in its development, just as our Chairman likes to associate our establishment with the service of surgeons, hospitals and patients in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

In fact, LBTB distributes an increasingly diversified range of safe human tissues nationwide.

Exports began rapidly, initially to the BENELUX, and over the years have conquered markets such as Greece, Spain and Slovenia. More to come.

At the heart of its mission, what became the Scientific Committee in the 2010s aims to promote the excellence of Luxembourg surgery and its reputation abroad.

It opened up to other corresponding members from new countries. This trend is set to intensify in 2025, as is the arrival of young surgeons, scouts for the demands and ambitions of the new generation; all challenges that the LBTB must rise to.

With the merger in 2021 with the Lépine group and its subsidiary Tissue Bank of France (TBF), combined with new partnerships, LBTB is proud to offer new tissues used by ophthalmologists, vascular surgeons and hand emergency.

The Scientific Committee hopes to welcome these users from other specialities in the near future, helping to open up new horizons.

The Scientific Committee creates an opportunity for exchange and emulation between its members and with LBTB.
